How We Should Eat in Christ

Okay, okay, so there is some confusion as to how we should eat in Christ. Should we eat only vegetables and fruits? Should we only eat kosher foods? Well, I will answer all your questions in today’s lesson. In Genesis it says that Abel offered up to god an offering of meat while Cain offered the fruit of the ground. God looked upon Abel’s offer with kindness while rejecting Cain’s offering. This was because Abel offered the first of his offering, and not only that, but the life is in the blood which symbolizes Christ being offered for us. It has nothing to do with how we should eat. God did say in Genesis that he gave us every food bearing tree for meat, but we must look deeper. Israel sought laws to please The Most High. He was telling them that salvation is by grace, but he gave them what they wanted. In Leviticus it says,  Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘These are the animals which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth: 3 Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves and chewing the cud—that you may eat. 4 Nevertheless these you shall not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have cloven hooves: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is [a]unclean to you; 5 the [b]rock hyrax, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is [c]unclean to you; 6 the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 7 and the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. 8 Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you. It goes on to list more which I will simply give you a direct link because it is too much to list here,

SO we see how the laws were and are burdensome. Yet we have people today who try to live according to the dietary laws which is okay if that is what God has placed on your heart. However, there is a better way. And that way is through Christ. For we know that Christ himself has fulfilled all the law and the prophets for us. In the new testament Christ says, Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. So we see here how in the new covenant it no longer matters what you eat. In Colossians it says, Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days. We see here how there is freedom in Christ to eat previously unclean foods. But we have to remember this is regarding food, things such as cannibalism is still not allowed. Whine is a tricky subject because while the bible tells us do not be drunken with whine, it also tells us to drink our wine with a marry heart. Then there is a questions of if the bible was talking about unfermented wine or alcoholic wine? We know that Jesus turned water into wine in John it reads,  On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” The question is was it alcoholic wine or not? One thing we do know is that the bible forbids being drunk with wine. And it tells us to not eat or drink anything whereby our brethren may stubble. And let us remember that wine quenches the spirit. So why drink it? I hope this has shed some light on how we, as Christians, should eat.
